Chrome–nickel–vanadium steel with high hardenability for hardening in oil, very good toughness at a relatively high hardness, very good resistance to the wear, very good resistance to the stress by pressure, shocks and hits, rather difficult ductility during the heat and good workability in the annealed state.
Tools for cold mechanical working, i.e. highly stressed tools for punching (coins, parts of watches, brooches etc.), calibration and stuffing of small parts (deep shapes and a high stress on tearing), asymmetric tools for extrusion and pushing (stressed by additional bending stress). Tools for crushing such as hammers into crushers requiring higher toughness. Further the steel is suitable for middle-size molds for working of plastics which are mechanically highly stressed.
